5 Steps to Planning Your Outdoor Living Space

When it comes to an outdoor living space for your home, it takes a lot of planning and careful consideration. Luckily, this is not something that you have to do on your own, and Earthscapes Design has come up with a five-step process that spells out what needs to be done, from gaining inspiration for the design to the putting the final touches on the outdoor living space.

Step #1: Find Some Inspiration.

Before you can do anything else, you must first decide what you want to do with your outdoor space. How do you plan to use it? Do you intend to use it to entertain large groups of people or are you simply looking for a quiet area to relax after a long day at work? You also need to consider different design schemes. Ultimately, the best thing that you can do to get some ideas of what you want is to head online. Pinterest boards are a great place to start.

Step #2: Begin Planning.

Once you have found the inspiration for your project, you can start planning. You must make the final decision on the products that you will use for your outdoor space. This includes the colors, paver shapes, textures, borders, etc. This part of the process also requires that you select a contractor to work with you, assuming that you aren't doing this all on your own. When selecting a contractor, make sure that you have done your due diligence and that they are trustworthy, within your budget, and can meet your deadline.

Step #3: Start the Transformation.

Once you have selected a contractor and agreed on the design, it is time to hammer down the installation details so that all parties are on the same page when it comes to the schedule and overall expectations. If you believe that your project may bother any of your neighbors, now would be the time to speak to them about the construction schedule. Let them know that they'll be invited over for a celebration once the project is complete, as this may help minimize the risk of an argument.

Step #4: Add Your Own Personal Touch.

For your outdoor living space, you need to add your personal style to it. In most cases, outdoor living spaces will mimic indoor living spaces in many ways. For example, you can add furniture, throw pillows, rugs, lighting, as well as decorative items. Depending on what you are using the space for, you can even add sound equipment, cooking appliances, etc. It is your space, so feel free to add touches of your personality and style here and there to make this space your very own.

Step #5: Enjoy It!

Now that the space is complete, it is time for you and your family to fully enjoy it. Just don't forget to maintain it so that it continues to look as beautiful as the day it was installed.
